|The Kristin Berardi Band, is made up of some of Australia’s leading Jazz artists, with both national and international reputations in their own right.
The group consists of
*Leader, vocalist & composer Kristin Berardi:
Kristin has performed in many Jazz Festivals and clubs both in Austalia and overseas – including 2007 IAJE Conference in NYC, Montreux Jazz Festival in 2007, JazzNOW Festival 2007, and recently completed a successful tour in Europe with guitarist James Sherlock. She was named the 2007 Winner of the National Freedman Fellowship Award for Jazz and 2006 Winner of the Montreux Jazz Festival’s Shure International Vocal Competition. Kristin has recorded/performed with Jim Pugh, Kenny Werner, Chris Walker, James Sherlock, Simon Barker amoungst others.
*World-class pianist Mike Nock:
Nock’s reputation rests partly on his imposing international experience which includes twenty-five years working in the USA with many of the world’s top jazz musicians such as: Coleman Hawkins, Yusef Lateef, Dionne Warwick, Michael Brecker, a large catalogue of critically acclaimed, internationally released recordings, his role as leader of the 1970’s seminal jazz-rock group The Fourth Way and a substantial body of original compositions in print and on recordings.
*Guitarist James Muller:
One of Australia’s leading Jazz musicians, he has worked with Bernie McGann, Sean Wayland, Chad Wackerman, Bill Stewart, Maria Schneider to name only a few. James co-won the Wangaratta National Jazz Awards 2000, won two Mo awards for Best Jazz Instrumentalist & Best Jazz Group in 2001,& in 2004 won the National Freedman Fellowship Award for Jazz.
*Versitle bassist Mike Majkowski: Majkowski works within a wide spectrum of contemporary music. He is a member of Mike Nock’s Trio, Farfinkel Pugowski, The Splinter Orchestra, the Divine Dialects and more! He has worked with many top jazz musicians including Bob Mintzer, Dale Barlow, Jackson Harrison, Dave Panichi and Sean Wayland.
*One of Sydney’s most in demand Drummer’s, Tim Firth:
Firth works regularly with many bands including The Don Rader Quintet, James Muller Trio, Judy Bailey Trio, Theak-tet, to name but a few. He was also named a finalist in the 2004 National Jazz Awards Drum Competition at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival.
*Tenor saxophonist David Theak:
Theak has successfully toured with his band Theak-tet in Europe in 2001 and 2004, and also with the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra in Australia 2006 with special guest Florian Ross (Ger). With releases on Birdland and JazzHead lables.
Theak is a prominant figure in the Australian Jazz scene. He was a finalist in both National Jazz Awards & Freedman Fellowship and leader of the award winning Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra. Since 2006 he also is a member of the Sydney Conservatorium’s Jazz staff.
This group has performed at the 2007 JazzNOW Festival held at the beautiful Sydney Opera House, 2006 Wangaratta Jazz Festival, 2007 Darling Harbour Jazz Festival, at SIMA’s Sound Lounge and Jazzgroove at the Excelsior Hotel.
Having just recorded a completely live album, with engineer Chris Vallejo, featuring Berardi’s original material, the group are looking forward to a release on the JazzHead Label in 2008.
